Some say Haiti is really a West African country in the Caribbean. Its name comes from the native Taino word for “mountainous” and pervasive mountain ranges contrast with expansive coastal areas. But however beautiful the landscape is, the true beauty lies in the population. It is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere with 59% of the population living below the poverty line. However, the Haitian culture is incredible and diverse, with much strength and resolve. The people of Haiti offer warm hospitality and a living and authentic faith. Although Christianity accounts for a majority of the Haitian population, there are often instances of traditional or voodoo beliefs getting mixed in with the Christian faith. Nonetheless, the spirit of God is alive and active in the face of adversity, and churches here are hungry for partnership. Local pastors and ministry leaders are the backbone of our ministry in Haiti. These men and women spend their lives investing in their communities, sharing the love of Christ, and being a constant voice of hope through times of struggle. God is at work and the Haitian people are excited to partner with you.
