His Season

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1: 3)

The biblical bio of a blessed person is given to us right off the bat in the book of Psalms. It begins to describe such a one in this way: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1: 1-2) KJV

As if this is not enough, the psalmist goes on to say: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1: 3) KJV – Our focus on seasons will not allow us to overlook the phrase “in his season.” It suggests that each of us can have a personal season of well-being when we are:

Planted – He was like a tree, planted. He was not like a seed sown or a weed withering or even a fruit falling. He was like a tree planted.

Plugged in – He was planted by the rivers of water. Thus, he was positioned in a perfect spot to be plugged into a running source that would give him fresh life.

Productive – He was productive in that he brought forth fruit. The purpose of his being planted was not just to be pretty, but to produce fruit and that’s what he did.

Persisting – His leaf shall not wither. In other words, even the leaves around the fruit had a lasting beauty and life about them which was worth noting.

Prosperous – He was prosperous in whatever he did. The blessed person is one who has been touched by the Lord in such a way that when it is his or her season whatever this one touches will prosper.
