A Shield of Hope: Protecting Children from Malaria

Malaria remains the leading cause of death among children in Africa, claiming thousands of young lives each year—many of them preventable. This disease continues to devastate families and communities, not only through the tragic loss of life but also by contributing to cycles of poverty, missed education, and increased strain on already fragile healthcare systems. In response to this ongoing crisis, TEL International is actively working to protect the most vulnerable, particularly in Sierra Leone, where the risk of malaria is especially high.

Our approach combines prevention with education. We provide long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets to families in at-risk communities—simple but powerful tools that significantly reduce exposure to mosquitoes, which are the primary carriers of the disease. These nets serve as a critical line of defense, especially for children who are most susceptible to severe malaria infections. When used consistently and correctly, mosquito nets save lives, prevent suffering, and reduce the financial burden caused by repeated illness and costly treatments.

But our mission doesn’t stop at distribution. We also invest in educating families about malaria prevention, proper net usage, and the importance of community-wide protection. By equipping individuals with knowledge and resources, we aim to foster long-term change—empowering communities to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health, reducing their dependence on emergency interventions, and cultivating a culture of prevention that protects the most vulnerable and promotes overall well-being for years to come.

At TEL International, we believe that every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy and hopeful. By addressing malaria head-on through prevention and education, we are not only saving lives today but helping build stronger, healthier futures for generations to come—futures where children can thrive, families can remain intact, and communities can rise above the burden of disease to pursue lasting growth, stability, and hope.
