TLC Children’s Home is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care for abandoned and vulnerable babies and young children in South Africa. Since 1993, TLC has become a safe haven for infants who have been left without families due to poverty, social instability, or crisis. We care for up to 35 children at a time, all under the age of three, while working diligently to place each child into a loving and responsible forever family. Over the past three decades, we have successfully placed more than 900 children into homes where they can grow, thrive, and belong.
The environment in South Africa presents ongoing and urgent challenges. The country faces a growing social crisis marked by widespread poverty, high unemployment, and limited access to support systems for at-risk families. These factors have contributed to an overwhelming number of infant and child abandonments. At the same time, South Africa’s weakening economy has placed incredible strain on nonprofit organizations and social service providers. Many institutions that once offered support have had to shut their doors due to lack of funding, leaving countless children without care or protection. TLC continues to stand in this gap, but we cannot do it alone.
To continue their mission and maintain the level of care each child deserves, we must raise US$26,000 per month. This amount covers everything from food and formula to medical care, clothing, utilities, staff salaries, and developmental needs. We invite individuals from around the world to support our children by sponsoring a child partially or fully, starting from as little as US$10 per month. A full sponsorship costs US$550 per month, and every contribution—no matter the size—makes a real and lasting difference.
To create long-term sustainability, TLC has launched the Adopt-A-Cot campaign. Through this initiative, we are appealing to our global community to help build a reliable and consistent monthly donor base. Rather than relying on large, one-time donations, we are encouraging sustained giving from many individuals, believing that small amounts given regularly can provide the financial stability we need. Our vision is for Adopt-A-Cot to eventually fully fund the monthly cost of caring for every child at TLC, allowing us to plan ahead with confidence and security.
Securing full annual funding would not only ensure uninterrupted care for our children, but it would also allow us to pursue our greater vision of becoming a Centre of Excellence—a model of best practice for other children’s homes across South Africa. Our goal is to share our knowledge, systems, and experience so that other organizations can better support the rising number of abandoned and at-risk children. Long-term, we hope to expand our reach beyond institutional care by engaging more directly with the wider community. We aim to support expectant mothers, prevent child abandonment, and break the cycle of crisis before it begins. At TLC, we believe every child deserves the right start in life, filled with love, care, and the promise of a family.
