Investing in the Next Generation of Sierra Leone Leaders

Investing in the Next Generation of Sierra Leone Leaders

An estimated one in six children—356 million worldwide—live in extreme poverty, and two-thirds of them are in sub-Saharan Africa. This level of hardship impacts every area of a child’s development, especially their ability to access and complete an education. To meet this need, we are building new classrooms and providing scholarships, books, uniforms, school meals, teaching materials, solar lights, and computer training. These initiatives equip children and youth to stay in school, succeed academically, and grow into the next generation of leaders in Sierra Leone.

Across Africa, 42% of children leave school before finishing primary education due to a lack of essential resources. In communities like Kamawornie, even the children who do attend face severely overcrowded classrooms and insufficient materials, making it difficult for meaningful learning to take place. The need for safe, empowering, and high-quality education is urgent and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This project directly addresses these challenges by creating well-equipped classrooms, reducing overcrowding, and supplying students and teachers with the tools they need to thrive. Scholarships, meals, school supplies, and computer training not only improve academic outcomes but also strengthen attendance, reduce illiteracy, and lower dropout rates. Quality education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty, honor every child’s right to learn, and open the door to lasting transformation.

At TEL International, we see this work as a powerful long-term investment. By expanding educational opportunities, we empower children and youth to rise above poverty, become independent thinkers, and make wise decisions for their future. Educated young people go on to strengthen their families, uplift their communities, and contribute meaningfully to their nation and the world. Education remains one of the most reliable paths to lasting empowerment and real, sustainable change, equipping individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities needed to transform their own futures.
