Throughout history, and especially in moments of profound service and national transformation, God has often chosen to accomplish His purposes through the obedience and faithfulness of a single individual. Time and again, the course of events has been shaped not by large movements alone, but by men and women who were willing to respond wholeheartedly to God’s call. One such individual was Efrain Alphonse, an African-American who lived in Panama. Though his name is rarely included among the most widely recognized missionaries, his impact was extraordinary. Wycliffe Bible Translators regard him as one of the great missionary pioneers of the twentieth century, not because of public acclaim, but because of his unwavering commitment to the work God placed before him. Through perseverance, sacrifice, and quiet faithfulness, Efrain Alphonse played a pivotal role in advancing the mission of Scripture translation and gospel outreach, demonstrating how God can use one devoted life to bring lasting change to countless others.
