Despite a change in national leadership, little has improved for the everyday citizens of Zimbabwe. The economic crisis continues to deepen, inflation remains unchecked, and unemployment has soared to a staggering 99%. For many families, even the most basic necessities—like food and school supplies—are now out of reach. This burden falls heaviest on children, whose chances at a better future depend on access to consistent education and nutrition.
Our project is committed to supporting 250 day scholars at a local primary school in rural Zimbabwe by providing them with daily, nutritious lunches, as well as essential learning materials including stationery, exercise books, and textbooks. By relieving these external pressures, we aim to create an environment where children can focus on their studies and build the foundation for a brighter future.
The context in which these children live is one of extreme hardship. Zimbabwe has endured years of political instability, economic decline, prolonged drought, and the devastating effects of widespread HIV. Rural communities, far removed from the political and economic centers of the country, are among the hardest hit. In these areas, food insecurity is rampant, and basic services are scarce. At our community schools—currently serving 400 students—most children come to school hungry, making it nearly impossible for them to focus, participate, or retain what they’re being taught.
Research consistently shows that children cannot learn effectively when they are hungry. Hunger dulls concentration, stunts development, and undermines academic performance. That’s why our school meal program is not just a supplement—it’s a lifeline. For many of our students, the lunch they receive at school is the only meal they get each day. These meals are fully funded by generous donors like you, and they make a measurable difference in the students’ ability to stay engaged in their education. In addition to nutrition, we provide critical educational resources that many families cannot afford. Items such as notebooks, pens, textbooks, and school uniforms are often overlooked but are essential for effective learning. By supplying these tools, we empower children to attend school consistently, participate with confidence, and keep up with their peers.
