Specialized Care for Children with Disabilities

Specialized Care for Children with Disabilities

This impactful project is dedicated to improving the lives of disabled children in the La Altagracia Province, especially those living in poverty in the Punta Cana region. The focus is on children with disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, and cerebral palsy, many of whom come from vulnerable, under-resourced families. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive, specialized care through a community-based health center in Veron, which serves as a hub for much-needed services and support in the area.

The health center provides vital services, including early care, behavioral therapy, speech and occupational therapy, physical therapy, pediatric care, psychiatry, nutrition counseling, and social work. By acquiring additional medical equipment and supplies, the center will enhance its ability to deliver a higher quality of care. As many of these children come from dysfunctional families, the project emphasizes the involvement of family support services to improve overall life conditions and reduce the socio-economic burden of disability. The project aims to reduce the socio-economic costs of disability and minimize social disadvantage. By improving the quality of care, it directly benefits over 3,000 families, lifting them out of poverty and marginalization.
