Supporting Farmers, Strengthening Economies

Economic growth continues to play a critical role in the fight against poverty, especially in developing countries where millions of people struggle each day to meet their most basic needs. Access to a stable and secure income can radically transform lives—not only for individuals but for families and entire communities. It opens the door to better healthcare, education, nutrition, and long-term financial stability. For this reason, we are committed to investing in smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs across the globe. When people are given the tools to generate income through their own hard work and innovation, they gain more than just financial security—they gain confidence, independence, and hope for the future.

In many low-income regions, smallholder farmers are the heart of local economies. Yet despite their vital role in feeding their communities and sustaining rural life, they remain among the most marginalized and food-insecure populations in the world. Shockingly, smallholder farmers make up nearly half of the world’s undernourished people and represent a large percentage of those living in extreme poverty. These farmers often lack access to even the most basic resources needed to increase productivity—such as modern farming techniques, affordable credit, and quality seeds. As a result, they are locked in a cycle of low yields, hunger, and financial hardship, with little chance of breaking free without external support.

Our program is designed to address these challenges head-on. We provide farmers with practical training that helps them adopt smarter, more efficient farming practices that lead to higher yields. We also connect them with essential financial services—such as microloans, savings accounts, and crop insurance—that give them the ability to invest in their land and protect their livelihoods. In addition, we supply critical inputs like seeds, tools, and fertilizer, helping them boost production and increase their income potential. The results of this work are tangible and deeply impactful. Households that once struggled to grow enough food for their own consumption are now producing enough not only to feed their families but also to sell surplus crops at local markets. With this additional income, families can afford school fees, healthcare, better housing, and other essentials that were once out of reach. Over time, these gains extend beyond the household, sparking broader economic activity and strengthening entire communities.

By investing in farmers and small business owners, we are investing in long-term solutions to poverty. Empowering people to support themselves creates lasting change—change that uplifts generations and fosters resilience. What begins with one seed, one skill, or one opportunity can grow into a movement of transformation that reaches far beyond the farm. This is the power of economic empowerment, and it’s why we continue this work with purpose and passion.
