Nyaka: Educating Orphans, Building Futures

Nyaka provides education to more than 700 orphaned and vulnerable children through two free primary schools and one free secondary and vocational school. Many of these children are cared for by grandmothers, and those attending primary school often walk several miles each day just to reach their classrooms. Donations to Nyaka ensure that these children have access to clean drinking water, nutritious hot meals, high-quality tuition, essential medicines, sanitary products, and school supplies. More importantly, they are given a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, interact with peers, and grow with confidence, develop essential life skills, and build the resilience needed to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams.

Girls, in particular, face additional obstacles in accessing education. Nyaka works closely with the surrounding communities to advocate for and support the education of girls, challenging societal attitudes that often place girls’ schooling as secondary to boys’. This proactive engagement has proven effective, with 55% of Nyaka’s current students being girls—a remarkable achievement in an area where poverty frequently limits the number of children a family can send to school. By actively promoting gender equality in education, Nyaka opens doors for girls to pursue further studies and future employment opportunities.

The project aims to remove all barriers that prevent girls from accessing education. Donations directly support the provision of food, clean water, medical care, school uniforms, supplies, and sanitary towels, ensuring that girls do not miss school during their periods. Your support allows girls to learn from positive female role models, gain confidence, and reach their full potential. At Nyaka, girls are encouraged to believe in themselves and consistently achieve remarkable outcomes, gaining the confidence, skills, and resilience they need to overcome obstacles and shape their own futures.

Educating young women has far-reaching effects. Girls who attend school are more likely to delay pregnancy and marriage, leading healthier lives with greater autonomy over their futures. The benefits extend to their children, who enjoy longer, healthier lives and improved educational outcomes. The impact of educating girls reverberates throughout the community, breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities that benefit families for generations. By investing in the education of girls at Nyaka, donors help nurture empowered young women whose influence transforms not only their own lives but the lives of entire communities, creating lasting change, breaking cycles of poverty, and inspiring future generations to reach their full potential.
