Strength in the Time of Trouble

Strength in the Time of Trouble

But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. (Psalm 37: 39)

When we hear the word salvation, we typically and almost immediately think of being saved from sin. By all means this is true. Nevertheless, salvation does not only mean being saved from sin, it generally means being rescued from danger. Hence, we can be saved from sin once and for all, but we may have to be saved from danger many times in our life.

If we let him, the psalmist will teach us at least two truths about salvation. The first is that the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord. Make no mistake about it. It is the Lord who rescues us. It is the Lord who delivers us. It is the Lord who preserves us. It is the Lord who protects us.

The second truth is that God is our strength in the time of trouble. He is behind our salvation, but often that salvation does not come without us having to fight. When we do have to fight, it is the Lord who gives us the strength to do it.

As we see adversity arising, we wonder how am I supposed to survive this? How can I stand this? The answer is: “God will give you strength.” He pours it out day by day, trouble by trouble, need by need, situation by situation. Therefore, you can not only count on God to provide salvation from trouble, but you can depend on Him to also give you the strength you need in the time of trouble.
