The Prophets Called it in Advance

Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. – Luke 18: 31

As far as we know, none of the ancient prophets of Israel were there in heaven when the plan of salvation and the birth of Christ were first considered. Still, it is quite amazing just how many of them accurately foresaw and called His coming. Centuries before His arrival, it was revealed to them. It was believed by them. It was proclaimed by them.

For example:

Isaiah prophesied that His mother would be a virgin (Isaiah 7: 14) and that He would be despised and rejected by men (Isaiah 53:3).

Jeremiah prophesied that He would be a descendant of King David (Jeremiah 23: 5).

Micah prophesied that He would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5: 2).

Moses prophesied in Genesis that He would come from the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49: 10).

Zechariah prophesied that He would enter Jerusalem on a donkey (Zechariah 9: 9) and that He would be betrayed by a close friend (Zechariah 11: 12).

What may have been a celestial secret came as no surprise to them and others who knew the scriptures and paid attention to the times. Isn’t it interesting that these prophets could see Christ coming long before He actually came, yet there are millions of people today who still can’t see Him long after He has already come. That is miraculous!
