Increase Our Faith

Increase Our Faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” (Luke 17: 5)

The apostles had rare and unique access to Jesus. They could have asked Him for anything. Yet, they sensed that the very thing which they needed to have the most of and more of was faith. This is why they made this simple request of him: “Lord, increase our faith.”

When I read these words, I think of the favorite song of my grandmother, Sylvia Person. Although she has been in heaven with the Lord for decades, I can still hear her beautiful soprano voice softly singing:

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus. Just to take Him at His word. Just to rest upon His promise. Just to know Thus saith the Lord. I’m so glad I learned to trust Him. Precious Jesus, Savior, friend. And I know that thou art with me. Will be with me to the end. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh for grace to trust Him more.

Today, the apostles’ prayer and my grandmother’s prayer should be our prayer. “Yes, we do trust you Lord, but please give us grace to trust you more.”
