Little Faith

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (Matthew 6: 30)

On the Galilean Sea, Jesus asked His disciples: “Where is your faith?” Here, during the Sermon on the Mount, He acknowledges that His disciples do have some faith, but it certainly isn’t much! “O, you of little faith.” They worry about what they will eat. They worry about what they will wear. They worry about how their needs will be met. Yet, Jesus assures them that the lilies of the field don’t go naked. The birds of the air don’t go hungry. So, if God takes care of plants and animals, why wouldn’t He take care of His own children?

Certainly, there is nothing wrong with little faith if you only want to do little things.

However, if you desire to do big things, little faith just won’t do. The Lord’s suggestion is not to worry as godless people might. Rather, we should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to us.
