Malaria remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases. It is caused by parasites transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. For people with little or no immunity—particularly pregnant women and young children—symptoms typically appear within 10 to 15 days after being bitten. Early signs include fever, headache, chills, and vomiting. In severe cases, especially among children, malaria can lead to anemia, respiratory distress, and, if left untreated, death within as little as 24 hours.
Beyond providing mosquito nets, TEL International missionaries educate families on practical ways to prevent malaria. They encourage communities to sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets every night and to eliminate standing water around their homes, where mosquitoes breed. These simple but effective preventive measures can significantly reduce the spread of the disease and save countless lives.
In Ghana, Pastor Julius Nangai and his wife, Beatrice, partner with TEL International to distribute mosquito nets through their local church. Their passion for this ministry is deeply personal. “Our son frequently suffered from malaria,” Beatrice shared. “The repeated fevers left him physically weak. We know from experience how much protection a mosquito net can provide, and we believe this simple gift can make a life-changing difference for many families.”
