A Fountain of Hope for St. Mugagga Boys Home

Can you imagine walking miles each day just to collect water that may not even be safe to drink? For many children, this is not imagination—it is reality. Safe water is not a luxury; it is life. At St. Mugagga Boys Home, 82 orphans and vulnerable children depend on access to clean water for their health, education, and future. This vital project will drill a new borehole and install a solar-powered pumping system to provide reliable, safe water and improved sanitation for every child in our care, ensuring long-term sustainability while protecting them from preventable waterborne illnesses.

Currently, industrial pollution has severely contaminated our water supply, with particulate matter measuring 5.3 times higher than the safe limits established by the World Health Organization. As a result, waterborne illnesses such as typhoid and diarrhea remain among our most significant medical expenses. The lack of clean water not only threatens the children’s health but also strains our limited resources.

By drilling a new well and installing a solar-powered pump to fill our reserve tank, they will dramatically reduce both the distance and time required to collect water. Solar energy ensures a sustainable and cost-effective solution, allowing water to be piped directly to the home. With consistent access to clean water, children will experience fewer illnesses, improved overall health, and greater school attendance.

The impact goes beyond drinking water. A dependable water source will improve sanitation, nutrition, and food security. Their livestock—pigs and chickens—will have clean water, and they will be able to irrigate crops across their 30-acre garden. This will increase food production, provide balanced meals for the children, and generate additional income to strengthen the home’s long-term sustainability.

Access to clean water will truly be transformative. It means healthier children, stronger educational outcomes, improved nutrition, and renewed hope. A reliable water source is more than infrastructure—it is dignity, opportunity, and a foundation for a brighter future for every child at St. Mugagga Boys Home.
