Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue her dreams in a safe and supportive environment. Yet across Northern Ghana, thousands of girls continue to face barriers that threaten their education, health, and future.

In 2010, an estimated 250,000 girls in Northern Ghana were married before the age of 18. Without sustained intervention, this number is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. Child marriage remains deeply connected to poverty, limited educational opportunities, gender inequality, and cultural practices that undervalue girls. These challenges are often intensified by economic hardship, food insecurity, and regional conflict, leaving many families with few perceived alternatives.

For countless girls, child marriage marks the end of childhood. It often forces them to leave school, limits their economic opportunities, and exposes them to serious health risks associated with early pregnancy and childbirth. Many also experience emotional trauma, domestic violence, and social isolation, preventing them from reaching their full potential and contributing to the development of their communities.

This initiative seeks to change that reality by providing 50,000 vulnerable and at-risk girls—including child brides from low-income families throughout Northern Ghana—with access to quality education, comprehensive reproductive health education, and essential health services. By removing barriers to education and equipping girls with knowledge and life skills, the program will empower them to remain in school, improve their health, and build brighter futures.

The project will provide a holistic support system that includes:

– Access to quality primary and secondary education
– School supplies, uniforms, and educational resources
– Reproductive health education and age-appropriate health services
– Mentorship and life-skills development
– Counseling and psychosocial support
– Community awareness programs promoting girls’ rights and gender equality
– Family and community engagement to encourage girls’ continued education

Through these interventions, girls will experience healthy physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development while gaining the confidence to make informed decisions about their futures. They will be empowered to complete their education, pursue meaningful careers, and exercise their right to decide if, when, and whom they choose to marry.

For girls who have already experienced child marriage, the program will provide opportunities to continue their education, strengthen their leadership skills, and become positive role models within their families and communities. As educated and empowered young women, they will be better equipped to support their households, advocate for the rights of other girls, and help break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.

By investing in girls today, we are investing in stronger families, healthier communities, and a more prosperous Ghana. Education is more than a pathway out of poverty—it is a powerful tool that restores dignity, protects human rights, and unlocks the God-given potential within every girl.
