As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to respond to our enemies in a way that reflects the heart of God. Rather than rejoicing when those who oppose us experience hardship or misfortune, Scripture teaches us to pray for them, bless those who curse us, and seek their good. Such a response goes against human nature but demonstrates the transforming power of Christ at work within us.

Christians should not embrace the concept of karma—the belief that people inevitably receive good or bad outcomes based solely on their actions. Instead, our hope rests in the sovereignty, justice, mercy, and grace of God. While God is perfectly just and every person is accountable to Him, He also extends patience and offers the opportunity for repentance. We are called to leave judgment in God’s hands rather than taking satisfaction in another person’s suffering, recognizing that God’s justice is always pure, His timing is perfect, and His desire is that all people turn from sin and experience His saving grace.

Loving our enemies is one of the clearest demonstrations of genuine Christian discipleship. When we choose forgiveness over bitterness, compassion over revenge, and prayer over resentment, we reflect the character of Jesus Christ. Such unexpected responses often capture people’s attention, opening doors for meaningful conversations about the gospel and the life-changing love of Christ.

Every act of undeserved kindness points to the grace we ourselves have received through Jesus. By responding with humility and love instead of retaliation, we become living testimonies of the gospel, showing that Christ’s love has the power to overcome hatred, heal broken relationships, and draw people to the hope of eternal life. In doing so, we honor God and become faithful ambassadors of His kingdom in a world that desperately needs His peace and redemption.
