Globally, an estimated 85 percent of churches are led by pastors who have received little or no formal biblical training. This lack of sound theological education presents a major challenge for the growth, health, and stability of the Church, especially in some of the world’s most spiritually underserved regions. At the same time, the need for Gospel outreach remains immense. According to the Joshua Project, approximately 5,937 people groups—representing nearly 3.04 billion people—within the 10/40 Window remain unreached with the message of Jesus Christ.
In the face of these overwhelming needs, TEL International is committed to changing these statistics by equipping indigenous pastors and church leaders to faithfully proclaim the Gospel and disciple believers within their own communities. The ministry’s vision is not simply to introduce people to Christ, but to see the Gospel take deep root in hearts, families, villages, and entire nations.
To help accomplish this mission, TEL International provides biblical leadership training to pastors, evangelists, and church planters in nearly 30 countries throughout the 10/40 Window. These training programs are led by experienced national leaders who understand the language, culture, and spiritual challenges of their regions. Having already helped establish churches in difficult environments, they are passionate about raising up others to do the same.
The training extends far beyond classroom instruction. Participants are taught practical methods for engaging villages with compassion, wisdom, and cultural sensitivity. They learn how to disciple new believers, establish healthy local churches, and develop sustainable ministries that can continue long after outside support is gone. In many regions where economic hardship is severe, pastors and missionaries are also trained in agricultural skills and small-scale farming so they can provide for their families while continuing to minister effectively.
This holistic approach allows church leaders to become self-sustaining missionaries who are equipped both spiritually and practically to serve their communities. Rather than creating dependency, TEL International seeks to empower local believers to lead the work of evangelism and church planting within their own nations, equipping them to become spiritually mature, biblically grounded, and self-sustaining leaders who can effectively reach their communities with the hope of the Gospel for generations to come.
As these leaders are trained and sent out, the Gospel is reaching villages, communities, and unreached people groups that may otherwise never hear the name of Christ. Through biblical training, discipleship, and practical empowerment, TEL International is helping strengthen the global Church and advance the Great Commission in some of the most spiritually needy regions of the world.
