According to Matthew 12:30, neutrality concerning Jesus is impossible. Jesus declared, “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” His words make it clear that there is no middle ground when it comes to our relationship with Him. We are either following Christ and standing with Him, or we are standing in opposition to Him.
Therefore, if you are committed to Jesus, you should not be surprised when you encounter opposition. Following Christ does not guarantee that everyone will agree with you, support you, or understand your convictions. In fact, Scripture reminds us that those who faithfully stand for Christ may experience resistance, rejection, and even persecution. Jesus never promised His followers a life free from opposition; rather, He warned us that opposition would come. When our convictions are shaped by God’s Word, there will be times when those convictions conflict with the values, beliefs, and priorities of the world around us. We must not allow the fear of rejection or the desire for acceptance to cause us to compromise our commitment to Christ. Instead, we are called to remain faithful, speak the truth in love, and continue walking in obedience even when doing so is difficult. Our goal is not to win everyone’s approval but to remain faithful to the One who has called us. When opposition comes, we can take courage knowing that we are not standing alone. Christ has gone before us, and His presence gives us the strength to persevere.
Jesus Himself faced intense opposition during His earthly ministry, and those who follow Him should expect that there will be times when they face opposition as well. Our responsibility is not to avoid conflict at all costs, but to remain faithful to Christ, stand firmly on His Word, and continue doing what is right. Jesus was rejected, misunderstood, falsely accused, mocked, and ultimately crucified, yet He never allowed opposition to deter Him from fulfilling the will of His Father. In the same way, we must not allow criticism, rejection, hostility, or pressure from others to cause us to abandon our convictions or compromise our faith. Following Christ requires courage, perseverance, and a willingness to remain faithful even when the path becomes difficult. We are called to keep our eyes on Jesus rather than on those who oppose us, remembering that our ultimate reward comes not from the approval of people but from God. When we remain faithful in the midst of opposition, our lives become a testimony that Christ is worthy of our obedience, our loyalty, and our complete devotion.
When opposition comes, we should not become discouraged or compromise our convictions. Instead, we should remember whose side we are on. If we are with Jesus, we can remain steadfast, knowing that our ultimate allegiance belongs to Him and that our faithfulness to Christ is worth every difficulty we may encounter. The approval of people is temporary, but the approval of God is eternal. We must never allow the fear of rejection, criticism, or persecution to become greater than our desire to please Christ. There will be moments when standing for truth is costly, when doing what is right makes us unpopular, and when remaining faithful requires courage and perseverance. Yet these are the moments when our faith can shine most brightly. We do not stand for Christ because the path is always easy; we stand because He is worthy. Even when others turn against us, we can trust that the Lord sees our faithfulness, strengthens us in our weakness, and remains with us through every trial. Therefore, let us stand firm, refuse to compromise, and continue faithfully serving Christ regardless of the opposition we may face.
