Overcoming with His Peace

Overcoming with His Peace

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – (Philippians 4: 6-7)

What an irony! God wages war with peace. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, He made peace between Himself and a rebellious creation. With the word of Jesus Christ, He spoke peace to a raging Galilean sea. By giving us His peace, He arms us with what we need to seize and secure our peace.

Paul encourages the Philippians and us to be anxious for nothing. Instead, he recommends that when trials come, what we should do is talk to God about it with prayer, supplication and thanksgiving. Through this process we, will receive the peace of God. When we get this peace, we will discover that: (1). His peace will surpass all of your understanding. You won’t believe how you can have such peace and be at peace when you are in such a trying situation. (2). His peace will guard your heart. The world around you may be topsy turvy, but His peace protects your heart from being upset in spite of the upheaval which seems to be everywhere; and (3). His peace will guard your mind. Like wearing a pair of hallelujah headphones, it gives you a zone of stresslessness in which to think, mediate and contemplate your next steps.

Here is some great news to end our series on adversity: “Don’t worry. The peace of God will guard you and the God of peace will give victory to you.” And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. (Romans 16: 20)
