The Shield of Faith

The Shield of Faith

. . .  above all, taking the shield of faith… (Ephesians 6: 16).

In this passage, Apostle Paul lays out the wardrobe of the saint who dares to do spiritual warfare. This whole armor of God includes: the girdle of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.

But, did you notice that before he mentioned the shield of faith he wrote: “above all?” This is an indication that (at least as far as he was concerned) of all the weapons we have in our arsenal the most important one is the shield of faith.

That is because with the shield of faith you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. You cannot keep the wicked one from firing his darts, but the shield of faith makes those darts ineffective.

You cannot stop the wicked one from attacking you, but the shield of faith can keep those attacks from penetrating you.

You cannot deter the wicked one from trying to hurt you, but the shield of faith prevents him from hitting you.

The shield of faith is like your American Express Card. “Don’t leave home without it!”
