They Presented Him

They Presented Him

. . . they presented unto him gifts . . . Matthew 2: 11

That these Wise Men opened their treasures is laudable enough. However, they were not satisfied with mere opening their treasures. They sought to have the honor of presenting Him their gifts. No UPS man would take their place. No Federal Express driver would hand it to Him. No post office worker would leave it on the step. They yearned to present their gifts to Him. Why might this have been the case? Could it be that . . .

1). Presenting the gifts required being in His presence. To them, just being able to be in His presence was worth their treasures.

2). Presenting the gifts let Him know who the gifts were from. This is not from a Secret Santa. We came all this way to see you and for you to see us! If nobody else tells you this on your birthday, please know that we love you. We adore you. We appreciate you. We value you. These gifts are from us!

3). Presenting the gifts allowed them to personally witness His response. Did baby Jesus leap for joy when He saw gold, frankincense and myrrh? Probably not. But, a smile from the Savior, a look from the Lord or a wave from the one whom they had come to worship would have been priceless. They presented their gifts in response to Him, but also to see and feel His response to them.
